Argentine company Nostromo Defensa has developed the first South American-produced unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) and plans to unveil a military variant in the near future.
The company has sold six of the fully autonomous Yarara, which was unveiled at the Fuerza Aerea Argentina Air Show on 10 August, to an undisclosed customer in the US, Jane's has learned.
The Yarara platform is designed for intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) missions and has an endurance of about four hours. Weighing around 22 kg, it has a payload capacity of 5 kg and is 2.47 m long with a wingspan of 4 m.
The company hopes to attract military customers from within South America and possibly other regions, said Nostromo Defensa Manager Marcelo Martinez.
In addition to military use, Martinez said the UAV could also be deployed for border patrol within South America.

Nostromo flies upgraded Yarara UAV

Argentina's Nostroma Defensa has successfully flown an upgraded Yarara C unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) with enhanced features, including improved landing gear, nose wheel and wing flaps, as part of a drive to find military customers.
The company is currently in talks with the Argentine Ministry of Defence and other South American countries that may buy the system.
Designers at the Corboda plant 300 km northwest of Buenos Aires drew on lessons learned from an earlier variant known as Yarara B, in an effort to increase the speed and agility of the Yarara C.
A full military version will be ready to purchase in March, according to Nostromo Defensa's Managing Director, Marcelo Martinez.
Able to fly at a speed of 145 km/h, the UAV's airframe has been reinforced to increase the maximum take-off weight from 23 kg to 35 kg.
Further enhancements include modifications to the electronics and engine as well as the payload and avionics bay.
The aircraft is currently powered by a German 3W 5.5hp engine, but the company is in talks with Honda and UK-based RCV Engines. According to Martinez, the goal is to fit the aircraft with a heavy-fuel engine capable of using JP8 fuel.
Yarara C can now be equipped with MicroPilot MP1028 or MP2128 miniature UAV autopilot systems and Argentina's INVAP may provide payloads, sensors and avionics.

jedi-knigth dijo:¿El receptor de GPS nacional? Toma paa vos... ¿apuntan a nacionalizar todo lo que puedan o las cosas mas compleja no vale la pena intentarlo?
