An F-111B, part of the TFX (Tactictal Fighter Experimental) program that sought to use one type aircraft to meet U.S. Air Force requirements for a fighter-bomber and U.S. Navy requirements for a carrier-based interceptor, pictured during flight operations on board the carrier Coral Sea (CVA 43) in 1968. The airplane did not meet the Navy's needs, the sea service instead turning to a Grumman aircraft, the F-14 Tomcat.
