As part of the exclusive coverage we are conducting at the LAAD 2024 International Security and Defense Fair, Zona Militar had the opportunity to interview Colonel Muñiz, institutional communication advisor at IMBEL (Brazilian Military Material Industry).

Founded in 1975, the company, which is dependent on the Ministry of Defense, aims to coordinate industrial activity related to the planning and production of military material, through the transfer of technology and financial and technical support for new military developments.

Regarding IMBEL’s participation in LAAD, Colonel Muñiz stated, “This fair is very interesting for us in particular. Our products have a dual use: they are products intended for defense and public security areas. And this year has seen a change, previously, this fair was mostly about public security, and this change in denomination brought a novelty as we now address both areas. Several foreign delegations attending are seeking defense and public security products, so the scope of the company’s operations has increased regionally.”

ZM: Regionally, what are the company’s expectations?

“The fair doesn’t bring much effectiveness at this moment, but it is very important for opening new negotiation opportunities. It has served to broaden the horizon for future negotiations, so it has been very positive. In this sense, we are in several negotiations, although we have not yet reached an agreement.”

Among the exhibited material, IMBEL presented its wide range of ammunition produced at the Juiz de Fora factory, including projectiles of calibers 155mm, 120mm, 105mm, and 81mm. Additionally, rifles caliber 7.62 IA2 and 5.56 IA2 were showcased, along with .380, .40, and 9mm pistols.

Furthermore, material intended for engineers was presented, including different types of explosive charges, rocket engines of 70 mm, mission computer modules, ruggedized computers, and communication equipment.
