Chile expects to begin major Leopard 2 upgrades next year

Chile plans to take its Leopard 2 A4 main battle tank (MBT) fleet through a midlife upgrade programme (MLU) next year, including replacing turrets with new electrical and digitalised versions, military sources in Santiago told IHS Jane's .

These tanks equip the Chilean Army's armoured brigades deployed in the country's northern regions.

The MLU would include improved modular armoured protection; a remote-controlled weapon station; and new electronics for sighting, targeting, and communications. Chile is also considering replacing the Rheinmetall L44 120 mm gun with the larger-calibre L55 version.

While defining the requirements for the MLU, the Chilean Army since 2013 has been requesting and studying information on potential solutions from firms including French-German KANT, Germany's Rheinmetall, and Switzerland's RUAG Defence.

Lo señalado es algo que se veía venir, yo particularmente pensé que se haría solo una vez que el EP eligiera un MBT, pero como parece que eso llevara un tiempo mas, el ECH decidió subir la apuesta y con esto definitivamente se convertirá en lejos como el mejor MBT siendo inalcanzable para muchos en Sudamérica.-

Todo siempre es "alcanzable", pero sin duda que este upgrade deja al ECH con un MBT muy poderoso, el L-55 es un cañon que imprime mas velocidad y presión a la munición, diseñado originalmente para superar el poder de fuego de los T-80 y T-80b.

Lo de inalcanzable lo escribí justamente por lo que dices que todo es alcanzable, pero teniendo en mente que lo puede alcanzar o superar un T-72B Venezolano después de una hipotética modernización, así como también las hipotéticas futuras compras de MBT de Colombia y del Perú, osea, estamos hablando de un MBT

No estoy seguro que hayan mas en disponibilidad para exportacion, al menos en Alemania y mas con la Guerra Fria 2.0

Se continuaran con los Leos 1, no existe necesidad de otro material y tampoco se modernizaran estos, no vale la pena.

Ah!!! y ademas no existen Leos 2 a la venta, a menos que sean nuevos
