South American UAV unveiled

Argentine company Nostromo Defensa has developed the first South American-produced unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) and plans to unveil a military variant in the near future.
The company has sold six of the fully autonomous Yarara, which was unveiled at the Fuerza Aerea Argentina Air Show on 10 August, to an undisclosed customer in the US, Jane's has learned.
The Yarara platform is designed for intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) missions and has an endurance of about four hours. Weighing around 22 kg, it has a payload capacity of 5 kg and is 2.47 m long with a wingspan of 4 m.
The company hopes to attract military customers from within South America and possibly other regions, said Nostromo Defensa Manager Marcelo Martinez.
In addition to military use, Martinez said the UAV could also be deployed for border patrol within South America.
