The U.S. Navy U.S. Navy battleship USS Tennessee (BB-43) at anchor at Colombo, Ceylon, with three destroyers alongside. Tennessee and her sistership USS California (BB-44) returned to the United States from Japan via via Singapore, Colombo, and Cape Town (South Africa) to the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard, Pennsylvania (USA), because their modernization had made it impossible to pass through the Panama Canal. The ships left Japan on 15 October 1945, arriving at Philadelphia on 7 December 1945. The were in Colomba from 30 October to 2 November 1945.
