USS Sable (IX-81), formerly the side-paddlewheel passenger ship Greater Buffalo, during her service as a training ship on the Great Lakes. 51,000 landings were made on her during the war. Note the Wildcat nose down on the deck with an interested crowd inspecting the mishap.
Stern view of USS Coral Sea (CVA-43) anchored at Hong Kong, in 1972. Coral Sea, with assigned Attack Carrier Air Wing 15 (CVW-15), was deployed to the Western Pacific and Vietnam from 12 November 1971 to 17 July 1972. USN photo.
USS Franklin D Roosevelt (CVB-42) aka "Swanky Franky" in her pre-refit straight deck guise. Midway class carrier, launched 1945, scrapped 1977. Note the F2H-2 Banshees & the extremely awkward looking (though successful) Sikorsky HO3S helicopters.
One of the best warship names ever: USS Shangri-La (CV-38). A sadly defaced photograph of Shangri-La (now CVA-38) after her SCB-125 refit in the mid-50's.
