AgustaWestland 129 to be model for Turkish ATAK
Turkey's Undersecretariat for Defence Industries (SSM) has signed a $1.2 billion contract with AgustaWestland to procure an initial 50 T129 attack helicopters to be built to Turkish specifications and developed from the export-standard A129 Mangusta International.
Turkish Aerospace Industries will be prime contractor for the project and will build a prototype of the new aircraft, which will feature more powerful engines to support hot and high operations, while Askeri Elektronik Sanayii will supply its avionics equipment.
The Turkish army's first T129s are scheduled for delivery in 2012, with Ankara also having options to acquire a further 41 examples under its ATAK project.

En el año 2012 el Ejercito Turco recivirà su primer A-129 de un total de 50 helicopteros de ataque que se deben comprar en una primera fase, ya que se contempla adquirir 41 Agusta A-129 adicionales al pedido de 50 helicopteros iniciales.
Bien por Turquìa y sus 91 helicopteros de ataque, ya era necesario seleccionar un nuevo helicoptero de estas capacidades, ya que solo tienen 38 AH-1 Cobras en sus filas y este proyecto de adquirir nuevos helicopteros de ataque tiene màs de 10 años de existencia, hasta ahora se firma algo de esta magnitud, sobre todo por razones polìticas se ha venido retrasando este proyecto por entradas al poder polìtico turco de partidos polìticos que se oponìan a la compra.
