Tres jolié fotos mon amí X 07. Specially the las one, it is quite big and never seen it before. Many thanks for your interest in our beloved and saddly missed ARA 25 de Mayo. I´ve always considered her a beautiful ship, but by the 80 it was already tired..... uncapable to sail at more than 18 knts as I seem to recall.... which prevented his day of maximum glory or tragedy in the aborted launch when there was detected a formation of 7 ships, some people say it might have been a Surface Action or attack Group segregated from the core of the CVBG, but I beliveve at least one of the CVLs was in the area as the second Tracker was "shoadowed" by a Harrier. In any case, it was gona be a battle to be remembered, our own little Midway........... the "northern picer" of the three pronged attack was the carrier, the two Class 42 and another ship that I can not recall........ There was a central atack underway with three Corvettes of the A-69 French class with exocets and 100 Creusot Loire cappable of a maximum of 20 kntos which was kept separated south of the Carrier as they are diesel and thus quite noisy at speed. And the infaust souther prongue, The Ar general Belgrano, with a couple of vintage WWII destroyers and two torpedo boats which were not very happy when the South Atlantic blows mercilessly. The loss of the "surprisse factor" when the Harrier shadowed the Tracker until it was iluminated by a radar of an Argentine Class 42....... then the surprise was lost......... and the sinking of the Belgrano convinced the ARA high comand that in pressence of SSns in the area, it was just a question of time.. so the fleet went to port. After the war the 25 de Mayo was adapted to operate Sues, but their engines were extremelly tired, it was mothballed to re-engine them with Fiat turbines, version of the GE, but sudendly, the 25 was decommissioned first, and then sold as scrap......... We miss her insanelly.
