BRITAIN must be ready for another Malvinas War, the head of the Royal Navy warned yesterday as he insisted we must maintain military capabilities to retain influence in the world.
In an apparent escalation of tensions with the chief of the Army, First Sea Lord Admiral Sir Mark Stanhope stressed the continued importance of the UK's "hard power".
He said Britain must look "beyond Afghanistan" and ensure it had the flexibility to deal with future conflicts and threats to security.
He warned against viewing the Afghan conflict as the "only game in town".
"We need to ensure that we, as a nation, have the strategic flexibility to deal not just with Afghanistan, but also the broad range of other threats and challenges to our national interests today and in the future," said Admiral Stanhope.
