B-108 Isla Bougainville (Lively Island) This morning a serving FAA officer whom I have been corresponding with for a long time now, sent me this very interesting article published in volume 17 of the aviation magazine 'Wings'. It relates to the downing of B-108 on 14 June (GMT) 1982. The detail in this article has...

gabotdf I am trying to be objective. It's hard at times being here...we fought each other and lost friends. If I met an Argentine veteran today I would put my arms around him and cry. That's how I feel.

Edited::banghead: Many thanks for this information. It is very sad, but the fact is we tried very hard to shoot those guys down. As the years have past I have been pleased that me missed the B707 and the re-supply aircraft. I have a close friend who served in HMS Minerva and it was his...

    Malvinas War/ Guerra de Malvinas

2 June 1982. HMS Cardiff is on radar ambush off Puerto Argentino. We fire two Seadarts at this aircraft. One when it was landing and one when it was taking off. We missed with both, can anyone tell me if the crew knew anything about our attempt to kill them?

    Malvinas War/ Guerra de Malvinas

On a Type 42 one big task when trying to shoot down low flying attackers (Skyhawks 30 May) is to get the 909 fire control radar to lock on to the target. At such low heights the sea distracts the radar and it takes a few attempts to achieve a lock. However, as mentioned by Creaking door HMS...

Quote: "On May 16th two pairs of Sea Harriers from No. 800 squadron carried out bomb and cannon attacks on two ships. One aircraft collected a bullet hole in its tail". I have a link to a site where this is written. Will it help with this particular issue?

No I'm sorry, I can't help you with the 10 June order. With regards to the C130 inbound/outbound routes, no we did not know them...or I was not aware that we knew them. I don't think you were lucky that more C130 were not downed. You were very skilful at avoiding our SAM traps. You won that...

I took that picture of Invincible as well as this one. I can see the crane in this one, both Invincible and Illustrious had cranes. HMS Illustrious did not reach the South Atlantic till after Cardiff departed. I do not understand the confusion.

    Malvinas War/ Guerra de Malvinas

A good question. No, I do not remember any time when I was concerned that we may not win. That is not to say I did not fear for my own life at times. The type 42 community was very close and the loss of Sheffield and Coventry affected us greatly in Cardiff, mostly with sadness I think.
