In order to increase their combat capabilities, the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation conducted an exercise in which non-strategic nuclear weaponry was deployed. Directed by the Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, the maneuvers took place in the Southern Military District, which includes parts of Ukraine occupied by Russia.

Although the location was not specified, the first stage of the exercise involved combat training for the Iskander tactical missile system, for which launcher vehicles were deployed in the designated missile launch area.

According to a statement from the Russian Ministry of Defense, “the training of personnel and equipment of combat units with non-strategic nuclear weapons is aimed at responding to and unconditionally ensuring the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the Russian state.”

In this regard, according to published images, the movement of Iskander and Kinzhal missiles can be observed, as well as Tu-22 bombers with Kinzhal missiles capable of carrying nuclear warheads. In particular, the Iskander system was recently deployed in the region adjacent to the border with Finland following its accession to NATO.
