In a recent press release from the United States Central Command (CENTCOM), it has been revealed that the U.S. government has delivered weapons and ammunition to Ukrainian forces. The delivery of this material is sufficient to equip a Ukrainian brigade with small-caliber rifles, it was explained.

The transfer of the material to the Ukrainian Armed Forces is part of a seizure made from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) on December 1, 2023. In this regard, the delivery includes over 5,000 AK-47s, machine guns, sniper rifles, RPG-7s, and over 500,000 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition.

These munitions were originally seized by the United States Central Command and associated naval forces on four stateless vessels during different transits between May 22, 2021, and February 15, 2023.

As explained in the statement, the munitions were being transferred by the IRGC to the Houthis in Yemen, in violation of United Nations Security Council Resolution 2216. Finally, it adds that Iran’s support for armed groups threatens international and regional security, U.S forces, diplomatic personnel, and citizens in the region, as well as those of the U.S partners.

This is not the first time that the United States has transferred seized Iranian military material to the Ukrainians. In October, the United States transferred over a million rounds of seized Iranian ammunition to the Ukrainian armed forces, as previously reported by CNN.
