According to a recently published video by China Central Television, it was revealed that the People’s Liberation Army Air Force (PLAAF) conducted live-fire exercises on the border between China and Myanmar, utilizing both aerial and ground assets.

In this regard, the Southern Theater Command of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) explained that this deployment aimed to test the rapid mobility of assets, target accuracy, comprehensive blockade, and joint attack capability of Chinese forces. In addition to the Air Force, armored infantry, artillery, and anti-aircraft defense forces, among others, also participated, swiftly mobilizing to the designated area to conduct joint live-fire exercises in different zones and at different times.

Among the assets used, the forces tested the capabilities and firepower of rocket launchers, self-propelled howitzers mounted on vehicles, and mortars. These assets provided precise fire coverage on hidden fire points in the particular mountainous geographical environment along the border. Within this framework, they also carried out precise joint attacks against real-time designated targets from multiple directions. The published video also shows aerial assets such as planes, fighter jets, and helicopters.

Global Times explains that the drill was designed with multiple coordinated scenarios, troops and equipment mobilized, rapid long-distance maneuvers, and continuous execution over several days. Tian Junli, spokesperson for the Southern Theater Command of the People’s Liberation Army of China, emphasized that they have been preparing for the exercise to be able to respond to various emergencies and are committed to safeguarding national sovereignty and border stability.

The situation on the border with Myanmar has intensified due to various causes or reasons in recent years. While both countries share good relations, a rebel group in the northern border has threatened the security and stability of the border areas since the military government assumed power in 2021, as well as local citizens. An expert said that China and Myanmar share a long border, and their cooperation is comprehensive and wide-ranging, especially in the ongoing advancement of China-Myanmar Economic Corridor cooperation projects. Therefore, the security and stability of Myanmar directly affect the interests of both parties.
