After a first quarter without major developments, the United Aircraft Corporation (UAC) confirmed the delivery of the first batch of Sukhoi Su-34 fighter-bombers to the Russian Aerospace Forces for the year 2024. Although no further details were provided, the delivery of these combat aircraft could signify the beginning of deliveries of more aircraft in accordance with the current year’s schedules.

The information was confirmed days ago through a statement from the state corporation Rostec, expressing that the Novosibirsk Aircraft Plant completed the delivery of a new batch of Su-34 fighter-bombers, after successfully passing ground and flight tests required by the Russian Ministry of Defense. However, as is often the case with such announcements, no quantities provided to the Aerospace Forces were reported.

“All UAC factories involved in the execution of the state defense order maintain the pace of production. With the first batch of frontline Su-34 bombers, we have begun aircraft deliveries under this year’s production program. The Novosibirsk Plant is confidently handling the assigned tasks. The factory workers understand how important our technology is today,” said Yuri Slyusar, CEO of UAC and Vice President of the Russian Industries Union.

At the same time, facing the current year, it was indicated that the Russian military complex is making every productive effort to sustain and increase the production of new combat aircraft. This includes investments in the respective manufacturing plants, as well as the hiring of new workers to meet the demand of the Russian Armed Forces. Official sources have reported a plan to fill a total of one thousand skilled job positions in the coming months.

Regarding previous batches received by the Aerospace Forces, deliveries were recorded in January, June, October, and November of the past year 2023. Although no further information is available, it is important to recall that in the year 2020, a contract was signed between UAC and the Russian Federation for the supply of 24 Su-34s, but due to the conflict with Ukraine, at least 21 standard aircraft and one belonging to the Su-34M version (by October 2023) were lost.

The Ministry of Defense of the Eurasian giant has stated on some occasions that the new batches respond to the operational needs of the Armed Forces in the war, so there is a possibility that a number of units will be manufactured to replace the lost aircraft.
