According to a publication made by the Ecuadorian shipyard ASTINAVE, construction works continue on the new Multipurpose Ship for the Ecuadorian Navy. The unit, corresponding to the Fassmer MPV70 MKII design, is making progress in its assembly, after the transfer to the slipway of the block corresponding to the bow, for its subsequent connection with the stern section.

According to the shared images, the future BAE Rumiñahui already has the bow superstructure of the ship assembled, including the bridge structure. Selected by the Ecuadorian Navy in 2019, the Fassmer MPV70 MKII design is part of a new class of units that have logistical capabilities as well as surveillance and patrol capabilities, which, combined with its C4I configuration, allow it to be a deterrent element to be deployed in Exclusive Economic Zones.

For maritime patrol tasks, it has two interceptor boats, in addition to the versatility of operating a medium helicopter weighing up to 11 tons from its flight deck. Likewise, it has a cargo deck capable of transporting containers, as well as liquid materials. In addition to its transport capabilities, it has a Replenishment at Sea (RAS) system that allows it to resupply other units at sea.

This unit will allow the Ecuadorian Navy to have a ship with a projection capacity of 80 meters in length, 15 meters in beam, and 5 meters in draught. Its main armament will consist of a 76mm gun at the bow, along with two mounts for light weapons on each side.
