The Israeli navy’s new U.S built landing crafts are being equipped with Israeli developed systems that will improve the craft’s protection but will also enable it to participate in certain combat scenarios.
The details are classified but sources here said that the systems will include a number of sensors and “tailored” weapon systems with high fire power.
The second landing craft INS Komemiyut arrived in Israel in recent days. The first one the INS Nahshon, arrived last year
The vessel, which weighs 2,500 tons and is approximately 95 meters in length and 20 meters wide, made a lengthy trip to Israel from the Pascagoula shipyard in Mississippi.
The U.S built landing craft will enable the Israeli navy to transport special unit with their special system and weapon systems to combat areas.
According to the Israeli navy ,the landing crafts will act as a central pillar in adapting the Israeli Navy to the modern and multi-arena battlefield. Among other things, the landing crafts will serve as a logistical axis for transporting equipment as well as the soldiers in near and far areas.
Moreover, the landing crafts will enable the strengthening of the high-quality cooperation between the various units in the Israeli Navy, the Technological and Logistics Directorate (J4) and the other IDF branches, in order to strengthen the joint operational activity, and putting the multi-branch combat effort into action in routine and contingency situations.
