Durante la operación de limpieza dirigida por él mismo en el ghetto de Varsovia, habia hecho prisioneros o asesinado a 37.359 judios, segun sus propios calculos. Cuando le preguntaron después de la guerra si se arrepentía de su comportamiento, Stroop contestó: "<em>Todos los hombres de verdad en aquellos días, es decir los hombres fuertes, se comportaron como yo lo hice"</em>.
