The B-58 was slated to replace the EB-66B "Pathfinder". Although conventional weapons testing took place in the U.S., deployment of the sophisticated B-58 to Vietnam was eventually denied by then Sec. of Defense Robert McNamara. Of the three aircraft, the F-105D was the only aircraft that served in Southeast Asia.
