U.S. Naval Aviation recently joined the static display at FIDAE 2026 with a Boeing P-8A Poseidon multi-mission maritime patrol and reconnaissance aircraft. The twin-engine aircraft was added to the fair’s static exhibition, where the United States was already represented by the U.S. Air Force’s F-35A Lightning II Demo Team and a C-130J Super Hercules from the Texas Air National Guard.

The P-8A Poseidon deployed for the 2026 edition of FIDAE belongs to squadron VP-30 “Pro’s Nest,” a unit responsible for providing training on the P-8A and MQ-4C Triton to pilots, naval flight officers, and enlisted aircrew before their assignment to operational fleet squadrons. The squadron has more than 650 personnel, who train over 800 officers and non-commissioned officers annually. For this purpose, they operate a fleet of 12 aircraft.
With the addition of the Poseidon, the United States once again consolidates its presence at FIDAE as one of the most important international exhibitors in terms of static and demonstration aircraft. The presence of the U.S. maritime patrol aircraft will likely also be used for exchanges with local forces, as was done by the F-35A Lightning II Demo Team with one of the Chilean Air Force’s KC-135E tanker aircraft.

Boeing P-8A Poseidon
Using the Boeing 737-800 as its platform, the U.S. Navy developed the P-8A Poseidon as a multi-mission weapons system to carry out maritime patrol and reconnaissance tasks, deploy long-range anti-submarine warfare (ASW) capabilities, anti-surface warfare, as well as intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance missions.
The P-8A Poseidon replaced the veteran and well-known maritime patrol aircraft P-3 Orion, which have been gradually retired from active and reserve units of the U.S. Navy in recent years, with only a handful remaining in service.
“…With a reduced crew, but with greater global range, increased payload capacity, higher operational altitude, open systems architecture, and significant growth potential, the P-8A offers enhanced combat capability…,” highlights the U.S. Navy’s Naval Air Systems Command.

The P-8A Poseidon also incorporates a state-of-the-art sensor suite, including an AN/APY-10 synthetic aperture radar, an electro-optical/infrared sensor turret, as well as enhanced acoustic capability thanks to modern passive and active processing systems. It also features a complex electronic warfare system, along with the capability to operate the advanced AN/APS-154 sensor.
Regarding offensive capabilities, the P-8A Poseidon can be armed with anti-ship and cruise missiles, torpedoes, mines, and smart bombs, as well as sonobuoys for submarine detection, among others.
