As part of the agreement signed with Israel’s Ministry of Defense to strengthen the country’s ground-force capabilities, the United States delivered a new batch of JLTV tactical vehicles to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF). The procurement is part of a military support program intended to improve the mobility and protection of units operating across different operational environments.

The agreement was signed by Israel’s Ministry of Defense through the Israel Ministry of Defense Mission to the United States, and covers the purchase of several dozen Joint Light Tactical Vehicle (JLTV) platforms intended for the IDF’s ground maneuver forces. These armored vehicles are designed to provide tactical mobility over complex terrain while offering increased protection against ballistic and explosive threats.

The contract is valued at approximately $26 million—equivalent to more than 80 million new Israeli shekels—and also includes a full maintenance and logistics sustainment package for the vehicles. According to Israel’s Ministry of Defense, the acquisition is part of a broader effort to ensure the IDF’s operational support across different scenarios.

The defense ministry stated that the purchase responds to a strategy driven by Defense Minister Israel Katz and the ministry’s Director General, Maj. Gen. (res.) Amir Baram, aimed at covering both immediate operational requirements and the long-term needs of Israel’s armed forces. This procurement policy seeks to strengthen the mobility, protection, and deployment capabilities of ground units.

The delivery follows recent precedents of military cooperation between Washington and Jerusalem in the area of ground equipment. In February 2026, the U.S. government authorized the possible sale of more than 3,000 JLTV-family tactical vehicles to equip the Israel Defense Forces.

That case was notified by the U.S. Department of State to Congress for approval and falls under the Foreign Military Sales (FMS) program, with an estimated value of $1.98 billion. The program allows strategic allies to acquire U.S. military equipment through government-to-government agreements that include logistics and technical support.

The roots of this cooperation date back to late 2023, when the Israel Defense Forces began discreetly incorporating the first JLTV vehicles, manufactured by Oshkosh Defense. At the time, it was reported that up to 75 units had been transferred along with other military equipment, while the company later confirmed the start of production of new vehicles specifically intended for Israel.

Based on the experience gained with these platforms, the Israeli government requested a new purchase from the United States for an additional batch of 4×4 vehicles from the JLTV family, considered an evolution of light tactical vehicles used by various armed forces. The new deliveries are intended to expand the IDF’s protected transport capacity and tactical mobility in ground operations.
