The United States Navy (U.S. Navy) confirmed that the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN-78) suffered a fire on board while operating in the Red Sea as part of the Carrier Strike Group deployed in the region. The incident, reported by United States Naval Forces Central Command (U.S. Naval Forces Central Command / United States Fifth Fleet), originated in one of the ship’s laundry spaces aboard the lead vessel of the Ford class.

According to the statement released by the U.S. Fifth Fleet, the fire broke out earlier today in the aircraft carrier’s main laundry area. Naval authorities indicated that the incident was not related to combat operations and that the situation was brought under control by the crew. The U.S. Navy also confirmed that two sailors were injured, although their injuries were described as non-serious. Both are currently receiving medical treatment and are in stable condition, according to the official report.

Despite the incident, authorities stated that no damage was reported to the propulsion plant of the flagship, meaning the aircraft carrier remains fully operational and capable of continuing its missions in the region.

At present, the USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN-78) is deployed in the Red Sea in support of Operation Epic Fury, as part of ongoing U.S. military operations aimed at reinforcing maritime security and military presence in the Middle East.
