As part of the ongoing commitment between the United States and Peru to strengthen the fight against drug trafficking and organized crime, the U.S. government has completed the delivery of three additional UH-60A Black Hawk helicopters to the Peruvian National Police (PNP). The aircraft recently arrived in the city of Pucallpa aboard a Boeing C-17 Globemaster strategic transport aircraft, completing the second batch of a total of nine units. This new shipment represents another step in the bilateral cooperation aimed at providing Peru’s law-enforcement forces with greater air capabilities in areas of difficult access.

The first group of three helicopters was delivered in May of this year, marking the beginning of the technical and logistical assistance program promoted by the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) of the U.S. Embassy. According to the agreement, the Black Hawk will progressively replace the veteran Bell UH-1H Huey II aircraft operated by the Police Aviation Directorate (DIRAVPOL), offering a more modern, faster and safer platform.

The agreement includes not only the transfer of the aircraft but also a comprehensive package of maintenance, technical assistance, provision of spare parts and training for Peruvian personnel. The United States committed to ensuring the continuous training of pilots and mechanics, along with the delivery of ground support equipment and a management information system (MIS) for the operational administration of the helicopters. According to the U.S. Embassy, the second generation of technicians and pilots is already being trained in order to ensure the sustainability of the program and prevent the aircraft from being grounded due to a lack of spare parts or specialized assistance.

The impact of this cooperation is already reflected in the operational results of the PNP. In 2025 alone, joint work between Diravpol and the INL enabled more than 17,500 operations, 10,590 arrests, and the seizure of more than 160 tons of illicit drugs, in addition to the destruction of more than 90 clandestine airstrips and 1,200 cocaine laboratories.

With the arrival of this second batch, the PNP now has six fully operational UH-60A Black Hawk helicopters, and the full fleet of nine units is expected to be in service by 2026. These additions represent a qualitative leap in mobility, reaction and safety capabilities for Peruvian forces, consolidating the role of the Black Hawk as a key tool in the fight against drug trafficking and in humanitarian support missions in critical regions of the country.
