Although the Spanish Air and Space Force is already projecting itself toward the future through participation in the FCAS Program, promoted by Spain together with France and Germany, it also does not neglect more immediate requirements reflected in the incorporation of new combat aircraft. This has been reflected with the confirmation that the first three Eurofighter Tranche 4 fighters, framed within the Halcón I Program, will be delivered by Airbus Defense and Space during the next year 2026.
The news was reported days ago by the Chief of Staff of the Air and Space Force himself, Air General Francisco Braco Carbó, within the framework of an appearance that the high command provided to the press in Madrid.
According to what was stated, the JEMA detailed the latest progress of the Halcón I Program, intended for the acquisition of 20 new Eurofighter Tranche 4 aircraft, intended to replace the current EF-18 Hornets employed by various Wings of the Air and Space Force, confirming that the first three aircraft of this batch will be delivered by Airbus during the next year 2026.
Based on what was indicated, these fighters will be delivered on the final assembly line that the European consortium has in Getafe, Madrid. Although details were not provided, it will be at this moment that the Air and Space Force will begin the respective acceptance flights and tests of the aircraft, although, as mentioned, the definitive incorporation schedule was not detailed, which could present changes as the dates approach.
Lastly, it should also not go unmentioned that Spain also confirmed the purchase of another additional batch of Eurofighter Tranche 4 aircraft, made up of 25 combat aircraft, and included within the Halcón II Program, ratified a year ago in the month of December. However, unlike the Halcón I aircraft, delivery of these is set only for the year 2030.
