The Durazno Air Base is adapting its infrastructure to receive, in early 2026, the first two A-29 Super Tucano aircraft for the Uruguayan Air Force, out of a total of six units acquired by the Ministry of National Defense from the Brazilian company .

As previously reported in January of this year, it had been confirmed that the arrival of the first two aircraft manufactured by Embraer would take place during the same year. However, final logistical and infrastructure adjustments at the main operating base have pushed the delivery date to the beginning of 2026.

During the A-29 Super Tucano Program management meeting held in July 2025, the Uruguayan Air Force reported progress in personnel training and technical adaptation stages for the reception of the aircraft. The project includes the purchase of six new units, whose contract was formalized in 2024 following agreements reached between the Ministry of Defense and Embraer.

The incorporation of this new platform is part of the modernization process of the Uruguayan Air Force (FAU), which seeks to restore its attack and close air support capabilities lost after the retirement of the IA-58 Pucará and the limited operability of the current Cessna A-37 Dragonfly.

With the addition of the A-29 Super Tucano, the Uruguayan Air Force aims to strengthen its surveillance, light attack, and advanced training capabilities, marking a significant step in the renewal of its combat fleet.
