Representatives from the European company Airbus, through its South American branch, visited the Paraguayan Navy Aviation Command to present a proposal to equip the force with helicopters as part of the ongoing modernization program of the Paraguayan Armed Forces. During the meeting, the Airbus H125 B3 helicopter was introduced — a platform known for its versatility and high performance in operations of varying complexity, positioning it as one of the main options under consideration.

The B3 can carry one pilot and five passengers. It has a length of 12.94 meters, a maximum takeoff weight of 2,250 kilograms, a cruise speed of 259 kilometers per hour, and a range of 652 kilometers.

The aircraft can also be equipped with a wide range of weaponry, including machine guns from 7.62 mm to 12.7 mm, a 20 mm cannon pod, or 68 to 70 mm rocket launchers, depending on the intended operational use and required firepower.

This helicopter model is currently in service with the United States, Argentina, Chile, Ecuador, Colombia, Venezuela, and Mexico, providing a broad base of operational experience that supports its candidacy for a potential acquisition by the Paraguayan Navy.

Modernization of the current HB350 helicopter fleet

While the modernization plan of the Paraguayan Armed Forces continues to advance across various areas, the 2026 National General Budget includes the modernization of the current Helibras HB350 Esquilo helicopters operated by the Paraguayan Navy’s Aviation branch.

The discussion and approval of the General Budget are progressing within the budget committees of the country’s Senate and Chamber of Deputies, and final approval by the National Defense branch is expected by the end of the month.

The Naval Aviation’s activities are also supported by the Paraguayan Air Force, which has recently received modernized UH-1H helicopters, as well as revitalized Bell 427 and Bell 407 units that are now operational.
