Over the past months and years, the Russian Federation’s military-industrial complex has demonstrated its capabilities, resilience, and adaptability in meeting the growing operational requirements of the Russian Armed Forces. In the case of the Ground Forces, this has been evident through the deliveries of tanks, infantry transport and combat vehicles, as well as air defense systems. In this context, the Uralvagonzavod consortium – part of the state corporation Rostec – has confirmed the recent delivery of new BMP-T Terminator combat vehicles, as was recently reported.

Based on the chassis of T-72 tanks, the Terminator was developed as a fire support platform for infantry units, whether for attack, suppression tasks, or, as seen in the conflict in Ukraine, in a new role countering unmanned aerial vehicles. According to Uralvagonzavod, the vehicle has been highly valued by troops in this function on the battlefield.

As noted, the BMP-T provides a significant volume of firepower with its two 30 mm cannons, complemented by a 7.62 mm coaxial machine gun and two 9M120 Ataka-T anti-tank guided missile launchers.

However, like other armored platforms such as the T-72 (on which its chassis is based), T-80, and T-90M tanks, the Terminator combat vehicles are also undergoing modifications aimed at improving survivability in a complex and contested theater of operations.

UVZ designers are constantly working to improve the characteristics of the tank support vehicle, taking into account combat experience. The focus is mainly on enhancing protection. The 2025-series vehicles differ from those delivered to the Russian Army before the start of the SMO. The amount of dynamic protection has been increased, and additional protection has been installed on the sides. The BMPTs, like the T-90M ‘Proryv’ and the T-72B3M tanks, now roll off the production line equipped with anti-drone grids and electronic warfare systems,” Rostec detailed in its official statement.

It added: “The vehicle’s high mobility and maneuverability are provided by a powerplant based on the 1,000 hp V-92S2 engine and a running gear unified with the T-90 main battle tank. Ballistic protection from all angles is on par with modern main battle tanks.”

At the same time, this is the first officially announced delivery of BMP-T Terminators by the Uralvagonzavod consortium since the conflict began in 2023, as previous announcements had focused on the supply of tanks, infantry fighting vehicles, and armored transporters. However, as is usual in such statements, the number of units delivered to the Russian Ground Forces was not disclosed.

Nevertheless, the consortium stated: “Uralvagonzavod is fulfilling a large order for BMPTs: the demand for this vehicle is high. It has always been considered that the main strike force of the Ground Forces consists of tanks. Now it can be said that BMPTs have joined them as well,” said the Director General of the Uralvagonzavod Consortium, Alexander Potapov.
