On September 25, 2025, Poland’s Ministry of National Defense signed a framework contract for the production of 1,266 Legwan 4×4 tactical vehicles, based on the South Korean KIA Light Tactical Vehicle (KLTV) platform, intended to provide tactical mobility to the Polish Armed Forces. Manufacturing will be carried out by a consortium led by Rosomak S.A. in cooperation with Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa (PGZ), with deliveries scheduled through 2035.

The decision to expand the fleet of tactical vehicles reflects lessons learned from the war in Ukraine, where mobility, troop protection, and logistical flexibility have proven decisive factors. Poland, which had already acquired around 400 Legwan vehicles in 2023 in its reconnaissance version, may now seek to consolidate this model as the standard tactical vehicle of its Armed Forces, ensuring NATO interoperability.

At the same time, the contract is part of Poland’s defense industrialization strategy. Production will take place in Siemianowice Śląskie, where Rosomak S.A. already manufactures 8×8 armored vehicles and collaborates in the localization of the South Korean K2PL tank. Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz emphasized that the Legwan program not only strengthens the Army’s mobility but also boosts the national economy and supply chain independence, with the potential to turn the Legwan into an export product.

The Legwan is a multipurpose 4×4 tactical vehicle set to replace the aging Honker and UAZ models still in service with the Polish Army. It will also feature specialized variants, including light reconnaissance, troop and cargo transport, support for K2PL tank battalions, mobile maintenance workshops, and command, medical, and communications versions.

Finally, the agreement covers not only vehicle production but also logistics and training packages, ensuring personnel training and the long-term availability of spare parts and maintenance tools.
