As part of the military parade held in Beijing for the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II, the People’s Liberation Army of China showcased several of its most advanced combat systems and platforms. Among them, the official presentation of a new Type 100 hybrid-electric fire support vehicle (FSV) stood out, designed to provide infantry units with enhanced tactical mobility, protection, and firepower.

The armored vehicle, based on other recently seen models, combines tactical mobility with a suite of weapon and sensor systems, making it a versatile platform adaptable to various roles and tasks. One of its most notable features is the integration of two unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) for reconnaissance and surveillance tasks, mounted directly on the rear of the vehicle. This capability allows the FSV to operate with greater independence in scenarios where situational awareness is critical.

Another innovation is what appears to be an active protection system, presumably a version based on the GL-6, also seen on the Type 100 “light tank” variant, which expands the options for countering and surviving threats in depth.

In terms of primary armament, according to the images released, the FSV appears to be equipped with a rapid-fire automatic cannon of 30 or 35 mm, capable of engaging light armored targets and providing fire support to infantry units.

The new Type 100 FSV is also equipped with laser detectors and a suite of sensors designed to improve target identification and designation accuracy. Additionally, it features an auxiliary power unit (APU) that allows the operation of its electronic systems and weaponry even when the main engine is turned off.

The hybrid-electric design is another highlighted aspect, offering reduced thermal and acoustic signatures—key factors in an environment where drones and surveillance sensors play a prominent role. The ability to operate more stealthily gives the FSV tactical advantages over conventionally powered armored vehicles.

Finally, based on analysis of the interior space visible in released materials, the platform can transport a small squad of 3 to 4 infantrymen in addition to the crew operating the vehicle and its integrated systems. This makes it suitable not only for fire support roles but also for limited transport and deployment of specialized teams.
