As has been consistently reported by the Russian military-industrial complex, the Russian Ground Forces have received a new batch of BMP-3 infantry fighting vehicles, presumably to replenish losses sustained during more than three years of conflict in Ukraine. The information, released by Rostec a few days ago, marks the second batch received by the military forces during the current year, 2025.

Although exact figures are not available, various estimates from Western sources indicate that the Russian Ground Forces have lost—counting both destroyed and captured units—a total of more than 7,500 infantry fighting vehicles, of which 700 belong to the BMP-3 model.

In light of this situation, the Russian military-industrial complex has been making significant efforts to replenish these operational losses through the delivery of successive batches, as has been consistently recorded.

In this regard, Russian officials themselves have been emphasizing the sustained increase in the production of armored vehicles. According to Bekhan Ozdoev, Industrial Director of the Armaments, Ammunition, and Special Chemicals Cluster at the State Corporation Rostec, he stated: “In March, the High Precision Systems holding increased the production of combat vehicles by 10% compared to the first months of the current year. Overall, since 2022, the production of light armored vehicles at Rostec has nearly tripled.”

Regarding this latest delivery, for which no numbers have been disclosed, it consists of a new batch of BMP-3 infantry fighting vehicles equipped with “…kits to reinforce the armor, slat screens, as well as anti-drone ‘grills’ that can be quickly installed and removed. The vehicles are equipped with ‘Nakidka’—kits designed to reduce visibility in the thermal and radar spectrums, made of fire-resistant material. This improves the vehicle’s survivability in combat conditions,” according to details provided by High Precision Systems.

Although this was not mentioned in the official statement, the reference to the various protection systems and kits on the IFVs suggests that the delivered vehicles correspond to the most modern version of the BMP-3, known as the “BMP-3M,” which features a new Sodema sighting system (equipped with a laser rangefinder), a new reactive armor kit, and the installation of the latest UTD-32 engine, delivering 660 horsepower.
