While throughout the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, the focus has been placed on new unmanned aerial vehicles, both Russia and Ukraine have been developing various naval and ground drones. One such case is the Depesha unmanned ground vehicle (UGV), developed and manufactured by the High-Precision Complexes consortium. According to one of the latest reports issued by Rostec, the Russian Ground Forces have received a new batch to be used in logistical support operations.

Known as Depesha, this is a wheeled unmanned ground vehicle, although some versions are equipped with tracks. Its main function is to provide logistical support to infantry units deployed in operational areas, thanks to its ability to carry loads of up to 200 kilograms. These loads include ammunition, equipment, medical supplies, and even, as noted by Rostec, the evacuation of wounded personnel.

“The drone features independent suspension and offers high maneuverability. The platform’s maximum speed is 30 km/h, and it can travel long distances. The robotic elements of the ‘Depesha’ are controlled by the ‘Prometey’ software and hardware complex,” Rostec detailed in a recent official statement.

Lastly, the Russian consortium has expressed that it is developing solutions to convert various platforms into unmanned ground vehicles. Examples mentioned include infantry fighting vehicles and artillery combat vehicles.

On this matter, they stated: “Our engineers at ‘High-Precision Systems’ have created an economical, compact, and multipurpose complex. Depending on its configuration, it can transport loads and carry out other missions. It is worth noting that today we are developing software and hardware solutions that can essentially turn any combat vehicle into a robot, including tanks, infantry fighting vehicles (IFVs), and self-propelled artillery systems. This approach allows us to use the technology in the most dangerous directions without risking our soldiers,” said Bekhan Ozdoev, a member of the Bureau of the Union of Engineers of Russia and the industrial director of the weapons, ammunition, and special chemicals cluster at the State Corporation Rostec.
