Throughout a three-day coverage of high seas navigation, a Zona Militar team was present during the execution of Exercise PASSEX Gringo-Gaucho II carried out by the Argentine and United States Navies. Aboard ships of the Sea Fleet, we were able to firsthand observe the professionalism, dedication, and effort of the naval personnel involved, belonging to the Division of Destroyers, Corvettes, and Maritime Patrol, as well as the activities carried out with the US ships.

Setting sail from Mar del Plata, Zona Militar witnessed and appreciated the prior preparations and gathering of Argentine Navy ships dedicated to the Combined Exercise, with their rendezvous point off the coast of the Atlantic city. Once preparations were completed, the Sea Fleet set sail towards the meeting point where they would rendezvous with the aircraft carrier USS George Washington and its escort group, consisting of the guided-missile destroyer (DDG-78) and the logistic ship USNS “John Lenthall.”

Upon the entry of the US ships into Argentine jurisdictional waters, they were escorted by the MEKO 360 ARA La Argentina destroyer to the rendezvous point, thus initiating Exercise PASSEX Gringo-Gaucho II in the Argentine Sea. Spanning from May 30th to 31st, this exercise encompassed a series of combined activities between Argentine and US ships and aircraft.
Among these, various types of navigations, anti-submarine warfare exercises, training and surveillance flights with Naval Aviation Command resources, the landing of Sea King helicopters on the USS George Washington aircraft carrier, and the execution of visit, board, search, and capture activities carried out by members of the Tactical Divers Group can be listed. Additionally, the execution of Exercise PHOTEX was carried out to immortalize the participation of the Combined Task Group.
