According to a recent report, the aircraft carrier USS Dwight D. Eisenhower of the U.S. Navy suffered a fire this week while it was undergoing maintenance work at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard (in the state of Virginia). The incident was confirmed by a U.S. Navy spokesperson, who also stated that the situation was quickly brought under control by the ship’s crew, although it also resulted in at least three injuries, with those affected receiving medical attention on board.

Quoting the spokesperson’s statement: “On April 14, USS Dwight D. Eisenhower experienced a small fire that was quickly contained and extinguished by the crew and Norfolk Naval Shipyard personnel, who responded rapidly and in accordance with established procedures. Three sailors received medical treatment on board and returned to duty.”
It is worth noting that the vessel has been moored at the aforementioned Norfolk shipyard since January 2025, following the completion of a deployment to the Indo-Pacific that took place between 2023 and 2024, under the command of the U.S. Fifth Fleet.

For the time being, the U.S. Navy has not indicated whether the incident will extend the scheduled timeframe for the maintenance work, nor what type of damage may have been caused. It is useful to recall that the aircraft carrier was undergoing an extensive overhaul of its propulsion systems, as well as upgrades to crew quarters and its combat systems.
