One of the most anticipated appearances at FIDAE 2026 was that of the U.S. Air Force F-35A Lightning II Demo Team, not only because of everything represented by Lockheed Martin’s 5th-generation fighter, but also due to the spectacular airshow they delivered in recent days.

For the 2026 edition of FIDAE, the U.S. Air Force once again stood out as the most significant international contingent at the airshow. In addition to the two F-35As from the Demo Team, a C-130J Super Hercules and an MQ-9 Reaper drone from the Texas Air National Guard were present, along with the U.S. Air Force Academy’s “Wings of Blue” parachute team. Complementing this presence, the U.S. also deployed a U.S. Navy P-8A Poseidon maritime patrol aircraft.
The F-35A Demo Team delivered one of the most impressive aerial displays at FIDAE 2026, showcasing to the audience the full range of the 5th-generation fighter’s aerobatic capabilities. Piloted by Major Sean “Rambo” Loughlin, the Lightning II roared across Chilean skies, leaving behind some unforgettable moments captured in the images shared in this article.

It is worth noting that the presence of the F-35A Demo Team was not limited to its airshow performance at FIDAE 2026. During their flight en route to Chile, the U.S. Air Force fighters also conducted joint training with the Chilean Air Force, performing aerial refueling maneuvers with a KC-135E Stratotanker. This activity marked a significant milestone for the Chilean Air Force, as it was the first time such an interaction had been achieved with U.S. 5th-generation fighters.

Operating as part of the 388th Fighter Wing, based at Hill Air Force Base, the F-35A Demo Team is composed of a pilot and commander, supported by a team of officers and non-commissioned officers who fulfill various roles ranging from technical support to public affairs. Each member plays a vital role, representing the U.S. Air Force before military leaders, civilian officials, the media, and the general public, “…communicating the role of the F-35A in global deterrence, interoperability, and combat readiness…”.

The participation in FIDAE 2026 is just one of many events scheduled for the F-35A Demo Team in its 2026 calendar, and it is the only planned appearance in the Latin American region.
