With the objective of validating its performance in extreme environments, Embraer carried out operational tests with a KC-390 Millennium tactical transport aircraft in the Arctic, successfully completing a demanding cold-weather campaign in Sweden. The activity took place at the Vidsel Test Range military facility, where the aircraft demonstrated outstanding performance in Arctic conditions, reaffirming its suitability for complex missions and its compatibility with the Agile Combat Employment (ACE) concept.

During the campaign, the KC-390 Millennium executed a series of tests aimed at validating its operation in low temperatures. The crew achieved a rapid start-up of the aircraft’s engines and systems, followed by short takeoffs and landings. Likewise, the aircraft demonstrated its capacity to quickly load and deploy heavy vehicles, including SISU GTT military all-terrain vehicles, while simultaneously maintaining space available for troops and additional equipment, which confirms its suitability for high-demand logistical operations.
In this regard, the President and CEO of Embraer Defense & Security, Bosco da Costa Junior, stated: “The KC-390 Millennium once again demonstrated its versatility and its capacity to successfully carry out the most demanding missions in the harshest conditions, all with 100% reliability. This next-generation aircraft, fully compatible with the Agile Combat Employment concept, represents an unbeatable combination for operations in Northern Europe and the Arctic.”
The KC-390 Millennium positions itself as one of the most capable aircraft in its category, designed to execute complex missions in demanding operational environments. Conceived in the 21st century to face current and future threats, this transport and aerial refueling aircraft offers high performance, operational flexibility, and cost efficiency. Among its capabilities, air-to-air refueling, operations under the ACE concept, and rapid response to multiple mission profiles stand out.

In parallel, Sweden is advancing in the process of incorporating the C-390 Millennium as part of the modernization of its tactical transport capability. In November 2025, Embraer began the manufacturing of the first unit destined for the Swedish Air Force, marking the formal start of the industrial program. The acquisition of four aircraft, together with the Netherlands and Austria, aims to replace the veteran C-130 Hercules (TP-84) and strengthen interoperability with European allies.
This program also reinforces the growing strategic cooperation between Brazil and Sweden in the field of defense and the aerospace industry. The incorporation of the C-390 Millennium, along with initiatives such as the Gripen E/F (F-39) program for the Brazilian Air Force, consolidates a partnership based on technology transfer, joint production, and the development of advanced capabilities. For Sweden, the future entry into service of these aircraft represents a key step towards a more modern, flexible, and prepared air force to operate in high-complexity scenarios, including Arctic environments.
