Following the Technical Operational Evaluation (ETO), selection, and award process, the Argentine Army officially received in Germany the first of its 48 new UNIMOG U4000 tactical trucks from Daimler. The event was led by Argentina’s Minister of Defense, Lieutenant General Carlos Presti, and representatives of the German company at the facilities in Wörth am Rhein, where Daimler Trucks has one of its most important factories.

The symbolic delivery in Germany took place within the framework of an official delegation from the Ministry of Defense visiting Europe, which, led by the head of the portfolio, is attending the Munich Security Conference.

Over the past few days, the Ministry of Defense and the delegation have held high-level meetings with the heads of the defense portfolios of Belgium and Italy, in order to increase exchange and cooperation in the area, as well as with representatives of the most important companies based in Germany, such as Airbus and Diehl Defense.

In the case of the new UNIMOG U4000 trucks, it should be noted that throughout 2025 the Argentine Army carried out a Technical Operational Evaluation (ETO), in which various proposals were assessed in order to renew the force’s tactical truck fleet, which still relies primarily on the venerable, but now technologically surpassed, UNIMOGs.

During this process, models such as the Arquus VLRA, Renault Trucks D 4×4, and Tatra Force T-815 were evaluated in different operational terrains, with the UNIMOG U4000 truck proposed for the process by Mercedes-Benz Camiones y Buses Argentina S.A.U. being selected.

Subsequently, and through process No. 84/135-0540-LPU25, the Argentine Army’s Directorate of Materiel awarded the purchase of a total of 48 new U4000 trucks for a total amount of US$ 8,160,000, equivalent to a unit cost of US$ 170,000 per vehicle.

With the holding of this symbolic and formal event in Germany, it is presumed that in the coming weeks and months the process of delivering the first U4000s in the country and their assignment to force units will begin.

It should also be noted that the Army’s intentions are more ambitious and potentially include subsequent orders of next-generation UNIMOG tactical trucks. This emerges from the documents and investment projects that are the genesis of this acquisition and capability renewal program, set out in BAPIN No. 148.204, which projects the incorporation of up to one thousand new vehicles of this class.
