As part of Peru’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its national defense industry, Peru’s FAME (Fábrica de Armas y Municiones del Ejército – FAME S.A.C.) has inaugurated its first plant dedicated to the assembly of special and military vehicles. The ceremony took place at the company’s facilities in Cajamarquilla, Lurigancho-Chosica, and was attended by the President of the Republic, José Jerí Oré, the Minister of Defense, César Díaz Peche, and other senior officials.
The Minister of Defense emphasized that this new facility represents “a decisive step toward industrial self-sufficiency in the Peruvian defense sector,” as it promotes technology transfer, the creation of specialized employment, and the strengthening of local industrial capabilities. With an initial production capacity of 80 units per month, the plant will begin operations assembling 4×4 KLTV and 8×8 K808 armored vehicles, gradually moving toward a co-manufacturing model with increasing participation from the national industry.

This project is a strategic component of the government’s policy to consolidate a modern and autonomous defense industrial base. In its first stage, production will meet the requirements of the Armed Forces, the National Police, and regional governments, with the potential to extend supply to other state agencies. In this regard, Díaz Peche noted that this production model will foster technological innovation applied to defense and contribute to economic growth through the development of domestic industrial capabilities.
The creation of this plant stems from a strategic partnership between Peru’s FAME and South Korea’s STX Corporation, which serves as the project’s technological partner and logistics integrator. Through this cooperation, specialized manufacturers such as KG Mobility are contributing to knowledge transfer, technical certification and comprehensive support for the assembly line setup. The ceremony was also attended by the Army Commander General, General César Briceño Valdivia; the Chairman of FAME’s Board of Directors, Major General Oswaldo Calle Talledo; and STX Corporation CEO, Sang Jun Park.

This industrial milestone is part of a bilateral cooperation framework that has been strengthening since last year. In August, FAME and STX signed an agreement for the initial supply of 10 KLTV 4×4 tactical vehicles, manufactured by Kia, marking the integration of these platforms into the Peruvian Army’s fleet. This contract corresponds to the second phase of a framework agreement signed in May 2024, which envisions the delivery of more than 100 units annually in subsequent stages.
In addition to the vehicle supply, the South Korean company will implement an integrated logistics support system including spare parts, maintenance, training programs, and technology transfer for Peruvian military personnel. With the launch of the new plant, Peru takes a significant step toward consolidating its defense industrial capabilities, reinforcing operational independence and promoting national technological development for the benefit of its Armed Forces and the country’s security.
