The United States government has authorized the possible sale of a significant batch of FGM-148F Javelin anti-tank missiles to the Polish Armed Forces. The operation, framed under the Foreign Military Sales (FMS) program, amounts to US$ 780 million and was recently notified to the U.S. Congress by the State Department.

Currently, the Polish Land Forces rely on a wide range of guided and unguided anti-tank weaponry, such as Carl Gustaf recoilless rifles and Israeli-made Spike missiles. However, one of the most significant upgrades was the incorporation, years ago, of the first batches of Javelin missiles; to the extent that, since at least 2023, options for local production of this weapon have been under consideration.

According to the Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA), on September 18, the Polish government requested the purchase of 2,506 FGM-148F Javelin anti-tank missiles, along with 253 new lightweight command launch units.

The package authorized by the State Department, valued at the aforementioned US$ 780 million, will be supplied by the joint venture formed by Lockheed Martin and RTX.

About the FGM-148F Javelin:

The FGM-148F Javelin missile is considered one of the most effective and combat-proven anti-tank systems worldwide. It is a man-portable, second-generation weapon consisting of a launch tube, a reusable Command Launch Unit (CLU), and a battery cooling system.
