The GlobalEye Airborne Early Warning and Control (AEW&C) platform has also been included in Saab’s offer to equip the Peruvian Air Force (FAP) with 24 new Gripen E/F fighters, during the final negotiations between the Kingdom of Sweden and the government of Peru. This was reported by Swedish Defense Minister Pål Jonson after meeting with the Peruvian delegation, which included retired General Walter Astudillo, Minister of Defense, and Foreign Minister Elmer Schialer, in Stockholm.

GlobalEye is a multi-domain Airborne Early Warning and Control (AEW&C) solution that, thanks to its combination of modern active and passive sensors, provides long-range detection and identification of objects in the air, sea, and land, Saab noted.
“We had positive and productive conversations,” Minister Jonson told the specialized publication Breaking Defense after the talks at Karlberg Palace last Wednesday, when asked about a possible agreement with Lima on the Gripen.

“This is for the Peruvians to decide which platform best suits their operational needs. We believe Saab has an attractive offer… There was a simple deliberation about it. We discussed many aspects of the Swedish Defense Force’s posture,” he added, according to the outlet.
Peru made a lightning visit to Sweden and France in the final stage of negotiations for the most important fighter aircraft acquisition since 1997, when it purchased 18 used MiG-29 fighter-bombers from Belarus.

The Commander General of the Peruvian Air Force (FAP), Air General Carlos Enrique Chávez Cateriano, has stated that the current requirement is for 24 brand-new aircraft. However, he has also pointed out that the military aviation branch needs an airborne early warning and control platform, among other systems, which will enable a comprehensive modernization of its capabilities.
