As part of BAE Systems’ presentation at the LAAD Defence & Security 2025 international exhibition, which will take place in Rio de Janeiro (Brazil) in April, a CV90120 tank has arrived in Brazil. This vehicle is BAE Systems’ proposal to equip the Brazilian Army with a new tracked armored combat vehicle. The unit departed from Örnsköldsvik, Sweden, was transported by land to Gothenburg, then shipped by sea to the Port of Santos, and finally transferred to Rio de Janeiro.

LAAD 2025 will be the first opportunity for the company to showcase one of these vehicles in full scale, highlighting its combat capabilities and potential integration into Brazil’s land forces. The vehicle will remain on static display throughout the event at BAE Systems’ booth in Hall 4, V40.

In addition to the CV90120, BAE Systems will showcase a variety of defense technology solutions at its booth, including the Amazonas-class offshore patrol vessels, currently in service with the Brazilian Navy, and the Amphibious Combat Vehicle (ACV). Also on display will be artillery systems such as the 40Mk4 and 57Mk3 naval guns, 3P ammunition, the 155mm M777 towed howitzer, and the TRIDON Mk2 40mm cannon, along with AWS-10 and Artisan naval surveillance radars, used aboard the multipurpose vessel NAM Atlântico, the flagship of the Brazilian Navy.

BAE Systems’ relationship with Brazil spans over more than a century, with multiple projects including the modernization of M109A5+ self-propelled howitzers, M113 tracked armored vehicles, and the delivery of Amazonas-class vessels and amphibious combat vehicles for the Marine Corps. The company also collaborates with local firms such as EMGEPRON in the munitions sector and Embraer in the C-390 program and EVE urban air mobility initiatives.

Regarding armored vehicles, since mid-2023, BAE Systems has conducted several demonstrations of the CV90 as part of the Infantry Combat Vehicle (VBC Fuz) program to equip the Brazilian Army. In April 2023, the company sent a CV90 MK III to Brazil for evaluation, with the possibility of also offering its MK IV version for the program, which aims to replace the M113 infantry fighting vehicles and Leopard 1A5 tanks.

In the combat vehicle segment, the CV90120 light tank, derived from the CV90 and equipped with a 120mm cannon, is among the options being evaluated by Brazil. This platform could be integrated into the Army’s Strategic Armored Forces Program, which envisions acquiring at least 65 Combat Armored Vehicles (VBC CC) to replace the Leopard 1A5BR in the future.
