With the aim of enhancing capabilities in the engineering branch, the Brazilian Army Commission based in Washington, D.C. (U.S.), and the company Birdon have entered into an agreement for the supply of two vessels for bridge assembly (BEBs – Bridge Erection Boat in English).
The contract, signed on December 22, 2023, includes not only the two vessels with various related components but also the corresponding training for their use. This acquisition, in particular, will incorporate a series of new technological advancements for BEBs, including a newly developed winch system designed to increase operational efficiency while ensuring the safety of the crew.
To date, the company has supplied BEBs to the Australian, Brazilian, and U.S. armies. Given Brazil’s geographical environment poses a challenge for the navigation of such vessels, especially in jungle settings, Birdon’s product stands out for employing hydrojet propulsion technology called NAMJet. This technology utilizes a mass flow water jet, providing significantly greater thrust at lower speeds compared to other hydrojets.
In addition to these operational advantages, the BEBs can be transported via land, air, and sea. Their load-carrying capacity allows for the placement of floating pontoons for the passage of armored units. They can also be used for transporting vehicles across open waters.
