it wasn't the FAA or Argentine Navy crews who had less than the best kit. Remember the Shar's Chaff launcher. A 1 shot bundle tied to the air brake with a length of cord, no flares and no working ECM till some one built a jammer into 1 of the 30mm Aden gun pods and that didn't work till...

Have asked in a number ofplaces and have had no reply about the question you raised about the Trackers and attempted intercepts on them.
As far as I'm aware very few missions were launched by the Shars against the sort of targets that the Trackers and the Neptunes represented. In...

Thank you for that, but in 82 we didn't know you had not used the Neptune as an AEW. We had before we had got rid of them and continued to use the AN/APS20 with the Shackleton in the AEW role. So you could see that as we had not paid attention to what the Argentine forces were...

Thanks for the insider information from 2-P-211. You can see what I was talking about as the lack of AEW cover allowed the SHAR CAP to be taken away from the SUE mission. Still not sure of how good they would have done searching for the Neptune. However the "run away" would have given the SHAR...

Thanks for the information, from what you are saying the crew are doing MPA tasking and although the height says MPA the course still says to me "bait". Yes I can see the dog legs and the minimal use of radar to throw off dectection would be very good to advoid the SHAR's but the big...

Could you please ask what height the Neptune was at. Tactically it would be important.
The route of the Neptune, would to me indicate that it was being in an AEW role rather than the MPA. If the crew was looking for Surface units then why did it not continue to the south and...

The mindset of certain officers has long been a problem to those actually fighting the Operation.:banghead: Rather than being given a ROE brief and an Objective and being told to get on with it, too much micromanagement takes place so opertunities are lost.
But then again from what I've...
MPA/AEW Neptune
Gentlemen.
I've got a lot of history on the Air Defence/Airborne Early Warning side of things and if you are looking for a reason that the Neptune was not engaged then maybe I can help.
Some of the Neptunes that were sold to he Argentine forces had previously been in the UK...

ZA129 was lost after taking off as the number 4 in a night attack and it has been assumed that Lt Cdr Batt flew into the sea or that one of the bombs he was carrying fused and exploded.
If you want a copy of David Morgans book that details the incident then please send me...
T42 Identification
just to confirm. The Black line painted on HMS Cardiff was also painted on all UK T42's this was to visually identify them as RN T42's from the side. They also had the Union jack painted on top of their Bridge to Identify them from the air.
